ABOUT wasteland
Brian has been an active member in the Buffalo music scene since 1990. His music business "career" officially began in 1998, when he opened Wateland Music on Elmwood avenue. While running the store Brian befriended many bands and the Elavation local hour radio show was born out of these relationships. The Elevation show showcased local music and the "innerworkings' of bands and their members. In 2000, Wantuch began to study live production as an I.A.T.S.E. member and working in local theatres. In the years to follow he learned set design and construction, sound design in addition to lighting and sound in Rock & Roll in venues such as HSBC Arena, Shea's, Klienhan's Music Hall and a number of other local venues. A lifelong student, Brian also used this time to study acting and further his endeavors in music composition. Brian has provided original sound and compostion for local theaters, toys, video games and radio/television commercials. Wasteland Recording studios , a natural progression in Brian's career, shortly followed. He continued his work with local bands but this time he was behind the mixing board. The "idea" of practice space for bands came with the change of use of the Sidway Building in 2002. Brian's band Elavation was a resident of the Sidway and was forced to move his practice space. This piques Brian's interest and he began to study real estate-specifically looking at abandoned commerical properties suitable for rehearsal spaces and a recording studio. Top contenders were an old firehouse on Plymouth and Jersey and the Ellicott Paint Building on Genessee St. In April of 2009 Brian met with Harold Kopp and asked the usual question he asked large building owners "May I put bands in your building?"Harold Kopp was the first to say yes, and Wasteland was born.
